Directions to the Ferranti Building

From Piccadilly Rail Station (5 minute walk)

Take the Fairfield St exit from Piccadilly station (down the escalators or lift, following signs towards "Taxis") rather than the exit marked Piccadilly/Station Approach. On Fairfield Street, turn right and cross over London Road. Walk towards the railway arch, then immediately after you have walked under the arch, turn right onto Altrincham Street, then left onto Lower Albion Street for access to the Ferranti Building.

From Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station (10 minute walk)

Take a short walk or the Metrolink tram to Piccadilly Rail Station, and then follow directions as above.

From Oxford Rd Rail Station (10 minute walk)

Descend the station approach and cross Oxford St into Whitworth St, with the Palace Theatre on your left. After 600m you will see the Sackville St building in front of you at the intersection of Whitworth St and Sackville St. Turn right onto Sackville St and continue down Sackville St, under the railway arches, then turn left down the service road onto campus for access to the Ferranti Building. Please ask for directions at the security lodge on Sackville St if you need further directions.

From Charles St car park (2 minute walk)

The multi-storey car park is located on Charles St. Turn left out of the main car exit (by the barriers), or go straight out of the pedestrian exit to cross over Sackville Street and follow the Service road (by the gatehouse, past the Renolds Building) around until you get to the Ferranti Building - follow the line of the railway arches then follow the road around to the right at the end, past the Vision Centre building and the Morton Laboratory. Please ask for directions at the security lodge on Sackville Street if you need more explicit directions.

University and car parking spaces are convenient and safe.

If you have an appointment with a member of staff they may be able to provide you with a parking permit for the day.

Sustainable travel

Travel to meetings, lectures, seminars or conferences conveniently and sustainably via one of the university schemes and services:

  • Shuttle bus - There are regular shuttle buses to pick up and drop off students at various points around the campus. These are also highlighted on the Campus map (PDF).
  • By bike - Bike racks are available outside the main entrances to all of our buildings.
  • By Foot – Use online tools such as Walkit or GPS Routes to plan the quickest route.
  • Car share – A designated Greater Manchester private group has been established with members from Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Manchester, Central NHS Trust and Royal Northern College of Music.

The Manchester Conference Centre & Hotel is on Sackville Street, at the heart of the North Campus and close to the Ferranti Building.
